#allwomensphotoshoot – body confidence and what happened behind the scenes !

So you may have noticed, Ive been littering my pages about my recent #allwomensphotoshoot – but what exactly was it? Why did it happen? And will it happen again? This, and some back stage sneak peeks , ALONG with some snippets of our anonymous feedback forms ( yes!) are all coming your way! Blog image

So WHY!?

We wanted to support all women, give all sizes, ages , hights and personalitys the chance to feel impowered, feminine and beautiful!

We wanted to use real , genuine relatable women to model, so social media isn’t full of unrealistic, airbrushed perfection!

Our hopes is to inspire real women to feel more confident, uplifted and even step infront of a camera, stop worrying that the media may make them feel they are “too” to feel that way.. “too” curvy, “too” old, “too short” ( I could go on and on!)

We want women to support women, female ran buisnesses, or just a ‘you look amazing!’

Its not always easy being a girl, theres a lot of pressure to look how these models look, the issue is – it’s a bit of a loosing game. THEY don’t look like that (hello photoshop!)

I WANT to see a short girl model a dress, so I as a short girl can actually tell where it will fall! , I WANT to see cellulite so I feel more normal about mine – and I don’t want to be told what I can and cant ware because of my size, shape, age , hight – ill have pink hair when im 80 thankyou very much! (turns up spice girl song!) Blog image

Model feedback “ I felt like a million dollars!”

So what happened?

So I got 8 girls vairying from size 8- 22 ages 21- 53 to start our journey of giving more confidence and supporting ALL types of women, I provided hair styling, Kerry from Beautiful you MUA , on makeup to enhance their natural beauty, and help them feel confident! (were not spreading th message you HAVE to have you hair and makeup done, after all I rarely ware any, but I cant deny I feel AMAZING after a pamper, self care or just after sitting in a pro’s chair!)

I paired the girls up into two’s the best I could, sneakely trying to work out who may have not under normal circumstances met or made friends (due to location or personality or shyness!) and let them loose made up with a posh frock (by popsy clothing!) and the stunning back drop of stoke rochford hall, and Frankie from pink photograpics of course to keep them laughing and snap some gorgeous photos,

And the girls totally took the message and ran, throughout the day I heard “you look amazing in that” “oh I love your hair” “look at that lippy” – women uplifting women!

And real friendships where made ! (this make me SO happy!) Blog image

I mean just the simple act of Kerry out MUA bringing a birthday cake for Kay (ne of our models) and making a hue fuss, even though it was infact her birthday a few days after – these little acts women preform daily, they never seem to get noticed; nobody ever really applauds yu for just being you!

Model feedback “I was made to feel so special”

So bearing in mind this was our first, think of it like a test run – we were expecting a few thing to ‘go wrong’ so we could learn… but im so excited to share some of the anonymous feedback from the girls Blog image

Over all we scored 77 out of 80! On our feedback forms!

Question :

What was your favourite thing about todays shoot?

3 random answers

“meeting fabulous ladys!”

“Frankie putting me totally at ease, loved the message and that you all believe so strongly in it* (*supporting and empowering all women!)

just feeling relaxed and happy and BEAUTIFUL

(OH YOU GUYS!)

Model feedback “ wonderful hair, makeup and dress – brilliant!”Blog image

So will we be doing it again!?

YES!!! Do keep an eye outf for our facebook page - all women photoshoot or www.allwomenphotoshoot.co.uk, we want to keep providing the experience as well as keeping spreading messages and encouraging women to just be themselves, and im so happy I can be a small part of that!

A huge THANKYOU to all the models for being such sweethearts! (and gorgeous!)

Frankie for her hard work, and even taking on sunburn to get the job done and basically just being my saviour though all of this, you wouldn't believe the work that's needed, in fact I know that because I thought I knew..... but man! was I wrong!

Cherish for her beautiful dresses, each one was so indervidual just like our girls

Kerry, for being her usual talented self

And for once (since this is all about self love!) I’m going o for once give myself a little pat on the back! (only took 26 years haha!) I’m really passionate about this, us girls – we don’t have it easy; its hard to be different or quirky- and I hope to carry on helpingspread confidence. Blog image

Its not all about sparking confidence and making women feel amazing (and giving them that model experience!) its about women supporting women too! We had a all-female supplier list and our lady’s ranged from ages 21- 53 and sizes 8 – 22 to really help celebrate all kinds of girls!

And not only that, even to our surprise – wed really hoped the girls get on board with our message , help and encourage each other ; but we never expected genuine heartfelt moments and genuine friendships being made! – women rock!

Holiday hair & skin - top tips!Hair Advice/Tips and Info

Posted by Lauren Mon, May 21, 2018 10:05:28

So I’m back (sulks) I’ve had a fantastic lazy holiday in Gran Canaria with my partner Tom, and I’ve got those holiday blues… and skin…. And hair! eep

So I felt it was time for my newest blog!

With the rise of popularity of jetting off for hen do’s honey moons, mini moons and just your holiday there’s never a good time for bad skin and hair, but a month before the wedding is defiantly NOT the time,

So I’m armed with some top tips! And I’ve even asked some pro skin and MUA experts to help! (yay!)

So let’s start with hair !

My top tips!

Buy a hat! Helps with colour fade, heat and UV damage and could save you a BIG chop! (also, they can be adorable! – or like me just rock the Mrs Nesbitt Look! Ha!)

HEAT AND UV protection spray, some ‘off the shelf’ spays only ‘protect’ to a low heat, or are either UV or heat protection, make sure yours does both! Added moisture is a huge plus! (or failing that, Argon oil along with your protection spray!)

Keep your hair out of the water! Your blonde locks CAN go green from the chlorine or orange from the sun… (see tip 1 and 2 to help this!) so take lots of bobbles , plaits are fab because the bobbles are at the bottom (tips of your hair) lessening short snapping like a ponytail can create

You know what’s next…. GOOD QUALITY SHAMPOO AND CONDITONER (yes broken record, but a colour safe moisturising shampoo WILL help!)

And treat yourself to a conditioner hair mask at least once over the week your away! Your hair will just look wet to others, but the thick conditioner coats your hair, the hot sun opens up your cuticles- your hair will feel a little soft the wash after, and it will probably just want to be shiny, straight rather than forcing a style into it

Blog image

So what about skin? Yeah…. I’m clueless too! So I’ve asked two pros to help you out! (hooray!)

Introducing Kerry from Beautiful You MUA , a beautician and MUA with over 8 years’ experience , a prestigious London makeup award along with countless published works, including the makeup styling for the front cover of a bridal magazine, Kerry manages to somehow make applying makeup look effortless (yes even with 3 tiny humans!) and is oh so down to earth and realistic with making sure everyone has access to makeup knowledge!

And Chloe from Chloe Simone MUA , an experienced & featured MUA and aesthetician ,with training from some of the ‘best in the biz’ and has secured recognition from some of the leading industry experts , Chloe is extremely pro inner beauty, glowing skin and is absolutely bursting with knowledge!

My question to Chloe (Chloe Simone MUA): I know there are rules to buying sun tan lotion, what’s your top tip for picking one that will work and help my skin?

Chloes answer: SPF is a must have for your skin! It should be used daily, whether or not you believe it’s a nice sunny day. The suns rays can penetrate our skin whatever the weather, causing Skin damage, ageing and many concerns around cancer. Always look out for lotions that don’t contain Chemical filters, Organic sunscreens are your best and easiest option

My Question to Kerry (Beautiful You MUA) : What’s one item of makeup or skin care you’d suggest packing in your hand luggage to keep me from looking jet lagged?

Kerry’s answer: I always take a moisturiser that has SPF 15 in it to protect my skin along with that I would take a rejuvenating eye cream/gel to keep my under eyes looking fresh and awake

My question to Chloe (Chloe Simone MUA) : What’s your top tip for sun burn & peeling skin, and getting your skin heathy again!?

Chloe’s answer : Its always best to avoid the sun, if the skin ‘tans’ we have damaged it! If the mistake of sunburn takes place, use plenty of Moisturiser, drink a lot of water and avoid drastic drops or rises in water temperature during bathing. Natural options such as aloe and coconut are nice soothers for skin, do not pick peeling skin as this can evoke hyperpigmentation !

My question to Kerry (Beautiful You MUA) : My skin changes a lot on holiday! I find it can go greasy from the lotion, or dry from the sun, or it changes colour from the sun, and my foundation no longer suits! What are your ‘must pack’ item’s?

Kerry’s answer : because of skin colour change and sun spots can be a problem , I tend not to pack a foundation or BB cream. My 3 must haves are Bronzer ( gives you a natural glow and enhances the sun kissed look), Translucent powder (gives you a coverage without the colour helps to mattify skin and make it less shiny ) & a nude/clear lip gloss/balm to keep the lips moisturiser and give you a natural glow.

And I also want to say I’m am oh SO pro sun tan lotion, (I’m no expert) but I always maintain that if your skin has the ability to tan, you’ll tan! If not, you’ll burn, so 8 layers of oil later, your just increasing your chances of burns, peeling skin…and much worse !

To prove this! I used factor 50… yes!! FIFTY, all week,

As did Tom,

And guess what…. I still tanned! But safely, so just to show this is a week of factor 50, with very little time actually sunbathing, always with a parasol up and just staying in the shade or under cover if needed!

(Tom the same!) And still…… Blog image

Same treatment, same factor – your skin will do what it does! Don’t push it – stay safe, and ENJOY!

What a Opportunity!The Dyslexic Blogger

Posted by Lauren Mon, February 12, 2018 12:26:26

So it’s been a busy week at Plaits and Pin Curls, and I have been meaning to blog, but I am not sure where the time goes!

But this will be a two part Blog, ‘The Run Up’ and ‘After’

Because I have something exciting to do, and I am so excited to share my experience with you! – but it felt a two part-er!

So welcome to the run up! (I will add after … well… after!)

So what is happening?

A few days ago I got a phone call from one of the judges I met at Hair/Beauty UK

If you don’t remember , myself and Kerry from Beautiful You MUA entered into a competition at the NEC in Birmingham, it’s a huge event that’s Pro only and sees hair , beauty and Barber professionals from all over the UK compete, teach, learn , sell and buy!

It’s massive, and thousands go! And you usually manage to spy someone from the telly! (flash back to that awkward year I met one of the TOWIE girls and had no clue who she was until she asked if I wanted a selfie, and could see my confused face; sorry I did wonder why people where taking photos! )

This year I was so proud to keep hold of my Bridal Hair Winner title from last year, but also amazed to gain a ‘Best in show’ trophy too! It was lovely to be chosen as best in the competition for hair, and a huge honour to come home with two awards! And one of the judges that chose me as the overall winner, got in touch to invite me to be a part of his styling team at London Fashion Week!

Blog image

Now if you’re not sure, London fashion week is one of ‘The Big 4” in the fashions WORLD!

I’m sure you’ve seen the celebrity’s take over the front row, it runs from the 16th-20th of feb 2018 and is showcasing designers autumn/winter collections; and see designers like Mulberry, Burberry , Mary Katrantzou and many more!

I know, I know I want to watch too, but it’s a invite only situation! But lucky for us there’s live streams available, many directly on designers pages! (so hopefully I can watch after, or find a gap in the curtain!)

I’ll be back stage in the thick of it, I have no clue YET on styles, numbers, timing, who I’ll be helping or WHAT I’ll be doing, hairdressing is a very strange job – its most lightly I won’t actually know until the day exactly what is expected of me!

Yes, its stressful! But its also an amazing opportunity, not one I ever thought id receive!

Either way I have been invited to be a part of a very talented team and that feel AMAZING!

Blog image

I have a lot to learn (because you never stop learning!), if the only job available is to sweep up, believe me I’ll be the happiest sweeper in the world! – I really am just happy to see, learn and be backstage at a place so few people ever get to go!

I’m sure I’ll be running off adrenalin! But I hope I can enjoy myself and actually get my hands on a model or too!

With every opportunity like this, its short notice and a lot to arrange, your never totally sure what to expect (style one girl? 10 girls? 50 girls?) there’s no telling!

But I’m excited either way!

I’ve just about sorted all my travel, and arranged everything I can with the little info I have !

(This isn’t strange, this is how the industry works, you can get a ‘style’ and it be changed last second depending on the lead, designers and show! Hairdressing is a lot of thinking on your feet, and dong it fast and well! )

One thing I am sure of, there will be no time to sit and relax, it will be GO GO GO!

So lucozade in one hand, hairspray in the other, ill be in London – part of the styling team

Blog image

For opening night at London Fashion Week!

Wish me luck! (& that David Beckham falls instantly in love with me, and buys me a holiday home with its own infinity pool…. I’m sure that’s possible? We can wish!)

Gift of a wedding Wedding Hair Blog

Posted by Lauren Wed, August 30, 2017 21:39:01

Last month I put my name forward to a local charity called ‘Gift of a wedding’ an amazing organisation that helps give a dream wedding to people with a terminal illness where they have little time and funds to plan their special day.

Companies and suppliers offer to help with various acts of kindness, to make the day special; and it was something I really wanted to support.

However I was nervous ....yes I know!
That sounds so odd, it’s not MY wedding day!
I’ve done countless brides hair, it’s become second nature.

But I think I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, and I think that’s what stopped me from putting my name forward in the past.

So I wanted to write this to show my experience, in hope that it would encourage others to take part too!

So for this particular charity (and I expect in most cases, because of the delicate nature of the job and time issues) you don’t get much notice.
‘Gift of a wedding’ post on Facebook to ask for help just a few weeks before the big day, and they will post a general location, so it’s great you can have a basic idea of travel time and the date before you get in touch.

*saves wasting time, another fear I had!

You need to have your insurance info on hand really, have it ready to go!

Once that’s been sorted I received a contract type form, most of the info didn’t apply to me, but it was little things to keep the day running smoothly, and lots of common sense, I’m not so confident in reading (dyslexia) but it wasn’t scary!
I liked that they reminded you to keep positive and kept a happy vibe, it set the tone!

I was then put in touch with the bride and groom, the company were fantastic at telling me who to contact (in this case, it was the groom, not the norm for wedding hair, but they explained that the bride was having a lot of hospital appointments,
again i didn’t want to call at a bad time, so it was thoughtful!)

We swapped a few texts (as trials were not possible at such notice!) and I arranged a time and location...

On the day, I was nervous driving, it was hard not having had a trial or much of a chat, so I just hoped the bride was happy with her hair on the day!

But the atmosphere was lovely, it was a gorgeous giggly morning and her best friend was just as Disney obsessed as me (bonus!) there were a few other suppliers on board making her morning special, a MUA, Photographer and videographer.

I don’t think it really felt like anything other than any other wedding morning until later that night, I couldn’t help feeling happy and a little overwhelmed by the help what was given, photography especially, it’s all day and all night with days of editing! Blog image

It was so kind, it definitely has the side effect of leaving you with a little glow!

Lets face it if you’re in this job, making brides happy makes you happy (or you’re in the wrong job!). The added bonus of helping a charity and a bride in need was something that was important to me.
I had my own reasons for helping out, but I also think sometimes you can forget that your job does in fact make a difference to someone’s day!

I think I forget that it can not only take pressure off what most women find a stressful morning but it also reminds you why you love what you do.Blog image

Now I’m by no means posting this for a reaction, it's not about that, and its definitely not the reason to do something like this.
I’m posting this to give insight to other suppliers, to understand a situation you’re not used to...no trials, no contact, not even knowing the brides name or exact location until a few days before, it was very daunting!

It was a mixed bag of emotions, but now I know what to expect it’s something I look forward to volunteering for again!
I do feel it’s the job of the suppliers to keep the vibe of the room happy (it’s a pretty big day after all!) but I feel that’s the same with any morning.

It was a little hard just turning up and introducing yourself, then just trying to get the hair perfect on the first try!
But it definitely gives you confidence in your abilities when the bride is happy!
It felt precious.

I can definitely recommend Gift of a wedding as a charity to support and enjoying your job for the day on a whole new level. (and it not feeling like work!)

Sign up! Give it a go! Don’t be nervous!
You will be helping a family build memories to treasure forever X

Back Again! The Dyslexic Blogger

Posted by Lauren Wed, March 22, 2017 21:40:09

So, I have officially lost the plot!

I did something very stressful last year, and obviously didn’t learn my lesson…. Because I’m doing it again! (I know!)

So if you’ve not guessed; I’m extremely pleased to say Beautiful You MUA (Kerry Astill) and I are competing at the NEC hair and beauty UK show,

So why in the mists of my busiest wedding season to date are we taking on a nationwide competition?

Apart from not learning our lesson, we absolutely love to push ourselves, and I know with confidence Kerry will agree with me 1000% (not with my bad spelling, but with my blog in general!)

Being self-employed, it’s very easy to not learn, not to keep pushing yourself, to become comphy and do the same things on repeat.Blog image

There’s no mandatory meetings, training or improvement days when your self-employed; you’re your own boss, Its up to you to take training, improvement and creativity in your own hands and the competition certainly pushes you, it’s amazing to feel creative and terrified at the same time! (Sounds mad I know)

So… were going back, (ahhhh)

For those who have followed me for a while you may remember I ACTUALLY WON last year, it was so incredible and an absolute shock, and I still giggle at my 1st place trophies when I see it (I have a trophies that’s not just ‘thanks for taking part at sports day now!) and I honestly can’t thank everyone enough for their support, it really was a unexpected and crazy experience; and I absolutely could not have taken any prizes without the support of the team, (Kerry, Laura and Sammie) the businesses that helped us out (soar valley brides, I do wedding gifts) and everyone who supported and helped me at home! Blog image

However it does make this year even more terrifying going into it!

I’m trying not to feel pressure!

Last year the categories where right up my street (I hit lucky!) we were set the task of winter bridal and a great Gatsby (vintage up do)these are things I get to practise a lot! So although I really wasn’t expecting to win, and it was still hard work – I found my timings easier and we really where just there to be their!

This year they have asked on both competitions for ‘high fashion’ or ‘Avant guard’ (especially in the second category!)

So we are in the position of doing unusual hair and makeup for our second category , under the eye of a lot of stick rules and judges (leaving us not as practiced in theory, product or timing!) Blog image

So… were nervous!

So what the process of competing?

we start with the mood boarded (judged and marked) face charts (Kerry’s work judges and marked) dresses and clothes, accessories too (yes, even in a makeup and hair comp, it’s all judged!) even mine and Kerry’s clothes are judged! (haha, there goes my points! …. Do I even have a uniform!?)

For instance we can lose points just for warring large earrings!

And even what we are talking about, or if we are talking too much,

Kerry can lose points for using her hands, not explaining products properly when asked, and usually gets grilled with questions id actually just cry at!

If out model is in the wrong position, (to close or far rom the table) if Kerry doesn’t clean her hands or brush or whatever properly...yep! Points lost!

And after all that, they even mark how tidy your table is! So under all that pressure… yep you’ve got to put lids on things and keep it all in line, clean, clear and obviously safe!

And of course… in-between all this – were actually judged on hair and makeup

For Kerry, application, Knowledge, Timings, photo finish, product use, product choice, flawless-ness (yes that’s a word) look, finish, prep, and… well since I don’t own foundation; I won’t try talk you though it all! (ha!)

For myself, time, neatness, balance, product, team work, tidiness, creativeness, end result…and more I try not to think of!

So what’s our aim this year?

To participate! Get out of our comphort zone, learn, and expand!!!

Push out creativeness! (Pick up some hair and makeup skills and knowledge from the watch and learn shows whilst were there… also; BARGINS!)

But mostly….feedback, it’s so valuable! And seriously…. You can learn so much!Blog image

The judge’s feedback last year was huge for me especially! To take on ways to improve or just feel confident in my work! It was amazing to talk to people at the top of your field and get genuine 3rd party feedback!

They are always so pleased with Kerry’s work every year, and they always invite us back!

There is a lot of pressure after last year’s win, but as long as we take part, and push ourselves – that’s all we need! But we seriously can’t thank everyone enough for their support … we will need it!

Win or lose! It’s a great way to both put ourselves though unnecessary pain (ha!) and learn!

We need your support again! But we do go to learn, push , expland! To give out brides better serviceBlog image

Biggest regrets from brides!Wedding Hair Blog

Posted by Lauren Fri, December 30, 2016 21:04:09

Biggest regrets from brides!

So I’ve been doing wedding hair a long time, and I’m very lucky because I’m also a fully qualified hairdresser, a lot of brides have me cut and colour their hair on the run up to the big day… and those crazy lot even invite me back!

It’s absolutely lovely, a lot of the brides I did in my first or second year in business are now asking me to style their hair for maternity shoots or cut there little ones hair…they just can’t get rid of me!

And of course in the run up to and after the big event… it’s all wedding chat!

Now I’m only a hairdresser, I can only really advise you on hair!

But it’s so heart-breaking to hear brides regret something on there almost perfect day, that future brides may be undecided on!

Biggest regret-

Getting a friend to do their photos, I hear this so much! The friend getting drunk, and taking wobbly photos…or just standing at the bar and taking none at all! Smudged, unflattering angles and totally in the way or MIA! – I know, I know, it’s such a HUGE expense, but spending all that money on a venue, dress, cake etc.… and having no evidence must be heart-breaking

Not making time; take a second to say hi to your new husband/wife, or believe it or not, you can go the whole day not speaking (other than your vowels)

**top tip; organize a little time, whatever is advised to do a little shooting, just you two! Ask your planner of photographer to have back boards on hand that say ‘thank you’, and after your big day…. You have gorgeous thank you cards to send out! It’s quirky and unique and you can get multiples made, so you just have to personalise the envelopes (saving time and money!)

Taking on too much! Please Please, if you’re a bride or bridesmaid… let that be your only job, I’ve seen many bridesmaids try to do all the others makeup or double up as a videographer, florist (I’ve seen it all!)

And sadly it always ends up the same, there in no photos, there absolutely knackered and in bed by 8pm (or drunk as a skunk, and not in the fun whoop whoop dance way!)The reality is, it is expensive to be a bridesmaid! (Hen-do’s, dresses, shoes, new pants!) please please please , just enjoy it!

Even a fully qualified pro, who does it every weekend would struggle to do their own makeup and everyone else’s and get to the church on time … oh and eat , drink, wee and get ready (these are never factored in for some reason!)

*wedding morning tips

Organise your rooms –

constantly walking from one room to another (especially if its outside and raining) makes it impossible for your hair and makeup artist to keep track of you! (and let’s face it, running around in the rain won’t give you the look your aiming for!)

Try to have a room for hair makeup, a place to dress and food * my next one

I always give a full run down of the morning to the bride at the trial (who’s first, what time, how to have the hair prepped) if you happen to have a disorganised bunch of besties , have another list, that runs ahead so there early and waiting !

My last tip…

Food

Going out to find food always runs the day behind, the smoothest wedding mornings have lots of things around to eat and drink! I’ve had many brides who didn’t have much in, and no time to get to a shop

This ended up with a huge headache and a rumbling tummy when saying there vowels

(I do *gurgle gurgle)

I hope you’ve enjoyed these few tips, and a few regrets from past brides may help the planning towards your big day!

But remember…as long as you’re married at the end.

IT WENT PERFECTLY!

enjoy every second!!! ... no really! take a BIG deep breath and enjoy!

Random Act Of Kindness The Dyslexic Blogger

Posted by Lauren Thu, November 17, 2016 20:30:09

A random act of kindness

I’m always seeing amazing story’s online of people amazingly making somebody’s day… just because

Sometimes small (a radio presenter brought train tickets for a man to see his son) to a man who tipped an American waitress £100! )

I’m a huge believer in Karma, what goes around comes around… so I wanted to do something nice, and setting my hairdressing skills upon someone seemed the best way! Blog image

So whats happening? – I’m giving away a FREE hair pamper, to someone. They can have the pamper any time in Jaunary (excluding sat and Sundays) and when a winner is chosen, I will let you know exactly what is involved.

Its all being done privately, so to enter you Private Message my business Facebook page (plaits and pin curls) and let me know who you’d like to nominate, where they live (eg. lougbrough) and who they are to you (friend, mum, sister) (or nominate yourself)

Ill contact the winner before Christmas, and we can arrange if you’d like it a surprise or not!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But first I have to tell you about my Altera motive… I have been hairdressing for over 10 years (I know.. I started young! ) and im very lucky, because my job is my passion! And I eat, sleep and dream in hair!

And I’m very lucky, to have amazing family, friends, clients and brides… but in this ‘box dye’ day and age we live in means ive seen a big change in hairdressing, and I’m beginning to believe wowcher and other discounting sights along with being able to buy ‘dye’ and ‘scissors’ in poundland (oh gosh!) may be starting to take the joy of having your hair done, to sit down and be pampered (in your home by a professional or in a salon) with a cuppa, and a good natter with a hairdresser who really just wants to make you feel lovely,

There seems to be a rush to things, I constantly hear the words ‘late, quick, fast,’ on a lot of Facebook groups, from women searching for hairdressers

And along with wanting to treat someone to a hair pamper, I wanted to remind people this is an art, a talent, a joy!

It should be a relaxing experience you can be pampered and feel amazing after , that soft bouncy hair feeling after! (best thing ever!)Blog image

And it’s not just a nice thing for you! Hairdressing is hard work! Long hours on your feet, constant back, neck, shoulder and hand issues, no breaks , bad feet and posture, varicose veins … and the smiling. The hours of endless smiling, you’re the last to get your hair done, so you always look a state, you live of caffeine and chocolate..and your lungs are basically made up of hairspray and bleach (not to mention there just no point to having your nails done… because they’ll soon be a the same colour as your clients hair…)

But, when your client bounces back from the mirror after checking out her new cut or colour, grinning like a crazy person!… ahhh…

Totally worth it,

When they recommend you to anyone that will listen, when they tag you in a beautiful hair selfie or leave a review….

Really, really worth it!

January can be a hard month for the majority of us, cold, wet, raining and lets face it… we’ve ate nothing but turkey, chocolate and spent all our money on…. Well im not really sure where is goes (I think the elf’s take it!)

So I simply wanted to make someone’s day, in one of the more rubbish months of the year.

But I also wanted to remind people (and myself!) to enjoy having a hair experience! No rushing, running – just a totally free hair pamper… just because their friend, sister, mum, aunti, nabour thinks their lovely… and deserving .

I have already had some rather amazing messages, people nominating people- I didn’t expect such a quick response!

I’m very sad I can’t treat you all, but some of you really do have some amazing friends…

And its actually makes my night reading these messages!

And im really looking forward to doing… whoever wins hair! Blog image

Find out what products will help your hair, help any problems and enhance your hair, it doesn’t matter to much if you’re not 1000% sure on what style you’re going for, up or down healthy hair is easier to style, shape and create style on!

Tips- medium hair is the best to work with, so by using volume shampoo on fine hair, or oils to make course hair more pliable, are aim is to get your hair as close to ‘medium’ as we can with products, if your hair is already medium (not to thick or fine) it’s about getting it healthy and full of shine, I would suggest ‘SLS’ , Sulphate and harsh chemical free shampoos,

(I use Beever hair care and have wedding hair packages that involve hair care, trials and wedding day styling – and can all be delivered to your door if the package needs swapping around to suit your hair, just ask!!)

6/7 months before- start your hair journey (I can help brides local to Quorn)

Your products have had a good month to work, so pre book your appointment to start that journey, you may want to be longer, blonder, healthier or just get a more polished look ,Box dye can be more damaging and harder to remove, so it takes time! Blonde can’t be achieved over night in most cases; and if the aim is to grow. – Sometimes it’s slow and steady that’s the best approach.

Tips- depending on your colour and cut anything from 4 weeks to every 8/9 , once you’ve had your first appointments and there’s a plan in place book backwards from your wedding so you know your colour and cut will be fresh (and there will be no roots!

3/ 4 months before – trials

Remember to pre book (especially if you need a Saturday!) your hair should have had a little work by now and be closer if not at your desired colour , your close enough to actually get excited, but there is a little time left should you like another trial, or want any tweaks to your colour or cut

Tip- some brides are unfortunately to far away for me to help with mobile appointments, its an idea to take a photo of your trial style to your hairdresser, they may be able to colour according to the style like I do.

3/ 4 weeks before – last colour and cut

Make sure your colour and cut is fresh! You may require a vitamin or conditioning mask or shine gloss, make sure it’s not too close to your big day, as it can make hair feel weighed down for a day or two, but if like most your colour is due 2/3 weeks before, asking for a conditioning mask between your foils whist your colour takes is a great way to get a fresh colour, cut and give your hair one last drink (it shouldn’t affect your hair style, again as long as it’s not too close to your big day!)

1 day before- hair prep

So you’ve been using your recommended products for a good 7/8 months now, your hair should be in the best condition possible, so generally the night before –A good shampoo, conditioner and heat protection (and anything else recommended) will keep you hair safe during the hour or so of styling – add hold, texture and shine and make your hair as beautiful as possible!

Of course we will bring our lotions and potions but the better you treat it, the easier it is for us, and the longer your style lasts! So doing a blow dry is ideal!

Tip- we say night before! But talk just ask, all hair is diffrentBlog image, a lot of ‘off the shelf’ products can leave a plastic coating on your hair using the correct products should mean your hair is easier to curl and control so remember to pack them, or re order if needed!
